Handover Ceremony for Primary School ''Aleksa Santic'' in Zenica

      Ambassador of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Futao Motai, attended the handover ceremony for the "Project for the Improvement of Heating System for the Aleksa Santic Primary School“ in Zenica, Zenica-Doboj Canton. 

      The ceremony was attended by Mr Milalem Galijasevic - Prime Minister of Zenica-Doboj Canton and Ms Zdenka Merdzan - Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Zenica-Doboj Canton, Ms Munevera Selmanovic – Director of Pedagogical Institute of Zenica-Doboj Canton as well as Mr Husein Smajlovic, Mayor of Municiapity Zenica.

      The Government of Japan has granted 50,988 EUR (99,723 BAM) to the Aleksa Santic Primary School for installation of the new central heating system with a new boiler and purchasing of new furniture for classrooms and teacher's room.  This project will provide a better working environment for 640 children and about 50 school staff.

      The Government of Japan gives high priority to the primary education sector and almost 20 million EUR has been financed for reconstruction of school buildings and equipping classrooms in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996.  The Aleksa Santic Primary School is one of the recipients of the grant among 3 school projects in 2009.

      Before the handover ceremony, the Ambassador made a cortesy visit to the Prime Minister's office of Zenica-Doboj Canton where he had a meeting with Mr Miralem Gallijasevic, Prime Minister of Zenica-Doboj Canton and Ms Zdenka Merdzan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Zenica-Doboj Canton.  After the handover ceremony, the Ambassador also visited the Mayor's office where he had a meeting with Mr Husein Smajlovic, Mayor of Municipality Zenica.

Handover Ceremony for Primary School ''Mula Mustafa Baseskija'' in Kakanj

      Ambassador of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Futao Motai, attended the handover ceremony for the "Project for the Partial Reconstruction and Safety Improvement of Mula Mustafa Baseskija Primary School“ in Kakanj, Zenica-Doboj Canton. 

      The ceremony was attended by Ms Zdenka Merdzan - Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Zenica-Doboj Canton, Ms Munevera Selmanovic - Director of Pedagogical Institute of Zenica-Doboj Canton as well as Mr Mensur Jasarspahic, Mayor of Municipality Kakanj.

      The Government of Japan has granted 61,344 EUR (119,978 BAM) to the Mula Mustafa Baseskija Primary School for reconstruction of roof and the entrance of the school building as well as for repair of the sports hall.  The realisation of this project will improve not only the safety but also the durability of the entire school building for more than 1200 students and 75 school staff.

      The Government of Japan has been financing almost 20 million EUR for reconstruction of school buildings and equipping classrooms since 1996.  The Mula Mustafa Baseskija Primary School is one of the recipients of the grant among 3 school projects in 2009.

      Before the handover ceremony, the Ambassador visited Kakanj Mayor's Office where he had a meeting with Ms Zdenka Merdzan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Zenica-Doboj Canton and Mr Mensur Jasarspahic, Mayor of Municipality Kakanj.

Handover Ceremony for ''First Primary School'' in Donji Vakuf

      Ambassador of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Futao Motai, attended the handover ceremony for the "Project for Improvement of Heating System for the First Primary School in Donji Vakuf" on 2 December 2009.

      The Government of Japan has granted 60,966 EUR (119,239 BAM) to Municipality Donji Vakuf for the installation of a new heating system for Kurica Kula Branch School and new furniture for classrooms at the Main School of the First Primary School in Donji Vakuf.  The installation of new central heating system will replace old firewood stoves and new furniture for classrooms will improve the working environment for 1200 students as well as 70 school staff.

      The Government of Japan has been financing almost 20 million EUR for reconstruction of school buildings and equipping classrooms since 1996.  The First Primary School in Donji Vakuf is one of the recipients of the grant among 3 school projects in 2009.

      Before the handover ceremony, the Ambassador visited Donji Vakuf Mayor's Office where he had a meeting with Mr Huso Susic, Mayor of Municipality Donji Vakuf, and Mr Hajrudin Talic, Chairman of the Municipal Assembly Donji Vakuf.

Handover Ceremony for New Ambulance Vehicle and Laboratory Equipment in Petrovo

      Ambassador of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Futao Motai, attended the handover ceremony for the “Project for Improvement of Medical Equipment for the Health Centre Ozren Petrovo” on 29 October 2009.

      The Government of Japan has made available 54,116 EUR (105,841 BAM) to the Health Center Ozren Petrovo for the procurement of the new ambulance vehicle and medical equipment for the laboratory such as hematological analyzer, X-ray processor, biochemical photometer, centrifuge, microscope, ECG. This project will contribute to the improvement of quality of emergency services as well as quick and reliable data of primal health care services for about 10,000 people of Municipality Petrovo.

      The Government of Japan recognizes the importance of projects in medical sector and so far has donated nearly 50 million euros for improvement of medical equipment and ambulance vehicles in primary health care institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

      Before the handover ceremony, the Ambassador visited Petrovo Mayor’s Office where he had a meeting with Mr Zoran Blagojevic, Mayor of Municipality Petrovo.

Ambassador Motai Visited Blagaj, Podvelez and Nevesinje

      Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Futao Motai visited Japan’s project sites: Blagaj, Podvelez and Nevesinje on August 13, 2009. During the visit, Ambassador met with Deputy Mayor of Mostar, Mr. Omer Pajic and Mayor of Nevesinje, Mr. Branislav Nikovic, as well as project participants with whom he discussed the perspective of the ongoing Japan’s project “Development of Sustainable Eco-tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina”.

      Mr. Kanao Itoh, JICA chief expert in eco-tourism development was also present during these visits. He and other experts have been helping local people’s efforts to sustainably develop eco-tourism ever since the project started in February 2007.

      The Project is part of the cooperation between the Government of Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Japan has spent approximately 1,647,000 KM (840,000 EUR) on the project, including the costs of capacity building.

Handover Ceremony for New Cardiomobile in Zenica

      Ambassador of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Futao Motai, attended the handover ceremony for the “Project for Improvement of Ambulance Vehicles of the Health Center Zenica” on 12 August 2009.

      The Government of Japan has made available 48,089 EUR (94,053 BAM) to the Health Center Zenica for the procurement of the new ambulance vehicle equipped with ECG apparatus, defibrillator, reanimation set and other medical equipment. This project will contribute to the improvement of quality of emergency services for around 130,000 people of Zenica municipality.

      The Government of Japan recognizes the importance of projects in medical sector and so far has donated nearly 50 million euros for improvement of medical equipment and ambulance vehicles in primary health care institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

      Before the handover ceremony the Ambassador visited the Cantonal Government of Zenica-Doboj Canton and Zenica Mayor’s Office where he had meetings with Mr. Miralem Galijasevic, Prime Minister of the Canton, and Mr. Husein Smajlovic, Mayor of Zenica municipality. The Prime Minister and the Mayor also attended the ceremony.

Handover Ceremony for Water Supply Project in Pecuj, Novi Travnik

      Ambassador of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Futao Motai, attended the handover ceremony for the “Project for Improvement of Water Supply in Pečuj”, Novi Travnik municipality, on 12 August 2009.

      The Government of Japan has made available 53,230 EUR (104,108 BAM) for the construction of a new water supply system in five villages in Pečuj local community. This project enables clean water supply throughout the year for around 1,000 local residents.

      The Government of Japan recognizes the importance of water supply as basic human need and so far has donated nearly 950,000 euros for water supply projects in various municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

      Before the handover ceremony, the Ambassador visited Novi Travnik municipality office where he met with Mayor Refik Lendo. The Mayor and the Chairperson of the Municipal Council also attended the ceremony.

 The Embassy of Japan in BIH Receives Award from Municipality Doboj South

      On June 24, 2009 Mr. Dzavid Alicic, Mayor of Municipality Doboj South paid a visit to the Embassy of Japan in Sarajevo where he met with Ambassador Motai. Mr. Alicic handed over the highest municipal award and “Plaquette of the Municipality Doboj South” to the Ambassador, which were awarded in recognition of Japan’s assistance for construction of Primary School “21. mart” Matuzici.

      The Government of Japan provided assistance for the construction and equipping of the Primary School “21. mart” in 2004, which was part of the Project for Construction of Basic Schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The school was opened to around 400 pupils in 2006.

 Ambassador of Japan in Official Visit to Zvornik

      Ambassador Futao Motai paid official visit to Zvornik on 31 March, 2009. During the visit, Ambassador Motai met with Mr. Zoran Stevanovic, Mayor of Zvornik, and discussed about the cooperation between Japan and Zvornik Municipality.

      The Government of Japan has assisted the Municipality of Zvornik with several projects. In 2003, it provided rehabilitative treatment equipment to the Community Based Rehabilitation Centre in the Health Centre Zvornik. In 2005, the Government of Japan provided medical equipment to the Health Centre Zvornik. Ambassador visited Health Center Zvornik, where he met with Mr. Miroljub Stefanovic, Director of Health Centre Zvornik.

      Ambassador also visited Kozluk, where he met with Mr. Fadil Banjanovic, President of Local Community Kozluk and discussed on the Project for Environmental Improvement in Kozluk, for which Japan granted 69,900 EUR (approximately 135,000 KM) in 2005. During the visit to Kozluk, Ambassador visited production facility of Vitinka Company.

 The Government of Japan Grants 60,966 Euros to ''First Primary School'' in Donji Vakuf

      On 25 March, the Grant Contract for the Project for Improvement of Heating System for the First Primary School in Donji Vakuf was signed between H.E. Ambassador Futao Motai and Mr Huso Susic, Mayor of Municipality Donji Vakuf.

      The grant, funded through Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GAGP) in the amount of up to 60,966 EUR (approximately 119,239 KM) will be used for installing a new heating system at the Kurica Kula Branch School and for purchasing of new furniture for classrooms at the Main School. The realization of the project will ensure the improvement of working environment for 1200 pupils as well as for 70 teachers and school staff.

      This is the third project in the primary education sector that has been approved by the Government of Japan this year. Since 1996, the Government of Japan granted nearly 20 million EUR for reconstruction of school buildings and equipping of schools.

 The Government of Japan Grants 45,580 Euros to Primary School ''Mehmedalija Mak Dizdar''in Gorazde

      On 23 March, the Grant Contract for the Project for Improvement of Heating System for Mehmedalija Mak Dizdar Primary School in Gorazde was signed between H.E. Ambassador Futao Motai and Mr Husein Halilovic, Director of Mehmedalija Mak Dizdar Primary School in Gorazde. 

      The grant funded through Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GAGP) in the amount of up to 45,580 EUR (approximately 89,146 KM) will be used for installing two new heating systems, one at the Main school in Vitkovici and the other at its Branch school in Bogusici. The realization of the project will ensure the improvement of working environment for 520 pupils as well as for 60 teachers and school staff.

      The Government of Japan recognized primary school education projects as one of the priority areas of Japan’s assistance in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 1996, the Government of Japan granted nearly 20 million EUR for reconstruction of school buildings and equipping of schools.

 The Government of Japan Grants 50,988 Euros to Primary School ''Aleksa Santic'' in Zenica

      On 19 March, the Grant Contract for the Project for Improvement of Heating System for Aleksa Santic Primary School in Zenica was signed between H.E. Ambassador Futao Motai and Ms Mediha Hrustic, Director of Aleksa Santic Primary School.  

      The donation funded through Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GAGP) in the amount of up to 50,988 EUR (approximately 99,723 KM) will enable installing a new heating system with a new boiler and purchasing new furniture for classrooms.  The realization of the project will ensure the improvement of working environment for 640 students as well as for 50 teachers and school staff.

      Education is one of the priority areas of Japan’s assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina.  Since 1996, the Government of Japan has supported a large number of schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina and granted almost 20 million EUR for reconstruction of school buildings and equipping of schools.

 The Government of Japan Provides 48,089 Euros for Cardio Mobile Ambulance Vehicle in Zenica

      On 16 March, the Grant Contract for the "Project for Improvement of Ambulance Vehicle for the Health Centre Zenica" was signed between H.E. Ambassador Futao Motai and Mr. Ferid Alic, Director of Health Centre Zenica. 

      The donation through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP), in the amount of up to 48,089 EUR (approximately 94,053KM), enables purchasing of cardio mobile ambulance vehicle equipped with ECG, Defibrillator, re-animation set and other important medical equipment which provide high quality of emergency service during its transportation to health centre or hospital. 

      Furthermore, the new cardio mobile ambulance vehicle is a front wheel drive which could quickly respond to emergency calls from residents in mountainous area in Zenica.  It will make a significant contribution to the health care of 130,000 residents of Zenica.

      The Government of Japan has granted about 50 million Euros for improvement of medical equipment in primary health care institutions since 1996 as this is recognised as high priority.

 The Government of Japan Provides 54,116 Euros for Medical Equipment in Petrovo

      The Grant Contract for the "Project for Improvement of Medical Equipment for the Health Centre Ozren Petrovo" was signed between Mr Futao Motai, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr Zeljko Simic, Director of Health Centre Ozren Petrovo. 

      The donation through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP), in the amount of 54,116 EUR (approx.105,841KM), enables purchasing of medical equipment such as heamotological analyzer, X-ray processor, ECG, which will contribute to the improvement of primary health care services in Municipality Petrovo. 

      Furthermore, a new ambulance vehicle will ease the field work of medical workers and, more importantly, make a significant contribution to the health care of 10,000 residents of Municipality Petrovo.

      The Government of Japan has granted about 50 million Euros for improvement of medical equipment in primary health care institutions since 1996 as this is recognised as high priority.

 The Government of Japan provides 53,230 Euros for Water Supply System in Pecuj, Municipality Novi Travnik

      The Grant Contract for the "Project for Improvement of Water Supply System in Pecuj Area" in Municipality Novi Travnik was signed between Mr Futao Motai, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr Refik Lendo, Mayor of Municipality Novi Travnik. 

      The donation through its Grant Assistance for grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP), in the amount of 53,230 EUR (approx. 104,108KM), enables an installation of water pipeline in a total length of 15km in 5 villages of Pecuj Area which will improve the current water supply system.  Most residents of this area are engaged in agricultural activities but there is no secured water supply.  Clean and safe water supply will be secured throughout the year by this project which will facilitate the daily life of the residents and promote agricultural activities.

      The Government of Japan has granted around 460,000 USD for water supply projects in various municipalities since 1996 and has attached great importance to water supply projects since provision of clean water meets basic human needs.

 1. Ambassador of Japan in Official Visit to Bijeljina

      Ambassador of Japan Futao Motai paid official visit to Bijeljina on March 5, 2009. Ambassador Motai met with Mr. Mico Micic, Mayor of Bijeljina, and they discussed about the cooperation between Japan and Bijeljina Municipality.

      The Government of Japan has assisted the Municipality of Bijeljina with two projects so far. In 2003, the Government of Japan provided one school building with full equipment to Sveti Sava Primary School. In 2005, the Government of Japan provided medical equipment to the Health Center Bijeljina. 

      After meeting with Mr. Mico Micic, Ambassador addressed the Municipal Council of Bijeljina.

      Ambassador received a Golden Medal Filip Visnjic from Municipal Council of Bijeljina, which was awarded to the Goverment of Japan as a recognition of donation provided for construction and equipping of Sveti Sava Primary School.

      Ambassador also visited Health Center Bijeljina and Sveti Sava Primary School, where he met with directors of these two institutions.

 2. Ambassador of Japan in Official Visit to Tuzla

      Ambassador of Japan Futao Motai paid official visit to Tuzla on March 5, 2009. Ambassador Motai met with Mr. Jasmin Imamovic, Mayor of Tuzla, and they discussed about cooperation between Japan and Tuzla Municipality.

      The Government of Japan has provide assistance to Tuzla Municipality through three projects so far. In 1999, the Government of Japan provided medical equipment to the Health Center Tuzla. In 2001, the Government of Japan granted 128,560 KM for the Project for Supporting Prvention of Flood in Tuzla. In 2003, Japan provided the school building with full equipment to Sjenjak Primary School.

      Ambassador also visited Sjenjak Primary School and met with director of the school.

 1. Handover Ceremony for Mine Risk Education Project in Brcko was Held on 4 March 2009

      The Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina Futao Motai attended a handover ceremony for the "Project for Support of Mine Risk Education Urgent Marking in High Risk Areas in Brcko" on 4 March 2009.

      The Government of Japan has made available 15,243 Euros (approximately 30,000KM) to NGO "Posavina bez mina".  Through implementation of various mine action projects, which mainly comprise education activities, the people in Posavina have learnt more about the danger of mines.  Furthermore, marking of area with red sign boards has shown the suspected mine area clearer than before. 

      The Government of Japan has recognised great importance on demining projects and mine risk education projects.  Since 1996, more than 1 million Euros has been provided to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in its efforts to become "country without mines".

 2. Handover Ceremony for Support of Sustainable Return to Koraj was held on 4 March 2009

      The Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina Futao Motai attended a handover ceremony for the "Project for Support of Sustainable Return to Koraj through Agricultural Promotion" on 4 March 2009.

      The Government of Japan has made available 61,478 Euros (approximately 120,000KM) to Association of Farmers "Behar" in Koraj for purchasing of agricultural equipment - 3 cooling chambers, forklift and 20 barrels for fermentation.  Beneficiaries of the project are 220 farmers and the equipment enables fruits, vegetables and seedlings fresh as much as possible in cooling chambers.  In particular, the project has contributed to expanded capacity of processing of strawberries and raspberries, which have good export potential toward European market.

      The Government of Japan hopes that this project will provide more income generation and job creation through improvement of agricultural activity in Koraj Area.

The Government of Japan Provides US$ 255,088 for Processing of War Crime Cases

      Ambassador of Japan Futao Motai attended a Signing Ceremony for the Project on Building Capacities of Cantonal and District Courts and Prosecutor’s Offices in BiH to Process War Crime Cases.

      The Government of Japan donated US$ 255,088 for the project implementation through Japan/UNDP Trust Fund.

      The objective of the Project is to improve the judges and prosecutors professional training enabling them to process the remaining war crimes cases at the courts in BiH.

      This is the second time that the Government of Japan provides funds for projects related to processing of war crime cases. Japan also funded the Project on the Support to the Establishment of the War Crime Chamber in BiH in 2004, by providing US$ 500,000.

The Government of Japan Provides 152,319 Euros for Demining Project in Banovici, Tuzla Canton

      The Grant Contract for the "Project for Support of Demining in Banovici" was signed between Mr Futao Motai, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr Bego Birparic, Mayor of Municipality Banovici.  The donation through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP), in the amount of 152,319 EUR (approx. 297,910KM), enables dimining of 50,500㎡ suspected mine contaminated areas in Municipality Banovici in Tuzla Canton.

      Mine contaminated area causes a considerable obstacle to the regional development in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  The purpose of this project is to increase access to arable lands by local population which is to increase agricultural activity and influence economic growth.  Furthermore, this project will contribute to get back to the safe and peaceful life and encourage the sustainable return of war affected people to Municipality Banovici.

      The Government of Japan has been financing demining projects of BHMAC since its establishment in 1996 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, amounting to more than one million Euros, as well as support for mine risk education projects.

      Japan has been assisting Bosnia and Herzegovina with 350 million US dollars and with almost 200 projects.
