Handover Ceremony for the "Project for Improvement of Water Supply System in Ljubinje"

On November 20, 2012, the handover ceremony for “Project for Improvement of Water Supply System in Ljubinje” was held in Ljubinje with the attendance of Ambassador Hideo Yamazaki, Mr. Vesko Budincic, Ljubinje Mayor, and Mr. Branko Cuzular, Director of the Public Company “Vodovod” Ljubinje.

The Government of Japan has granted 65,646 EUR (approximately 128,392KM) to the Public Company “Vodovod” for the installation of a pump aggregation and water chlorination equipment for water source. This project brings safe and stable water supply to around 4,500 inhabitants and it will be expected to allow for development of local economy.  

The Government of Japan has addressed water supply as one of the crucial issues on human basic needs and has so far contributed almost 1 million EUR for water supply projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996.

Handover Ceremony for the "Project for Reconstruction of Water Supply System in Bosansko Grahovo"

On July 19, 2012, the handover ceremony for “the Project for Reconstruction of Water Supply System in Bosansko Grahovo” was held in Bosansko Grahovo with the attendance of Ambassador Hideo Yamazaki, Mr. Uros Makic, Bosansko Grahovo Mayor, and Mr Andjelko Trtic, Director of the Public Company “Grahovo”.

The Government of Japan has granted 74,228 EUR (approximately 145,177KM) to Municipality Bosansko Grahovo for the renovation of 3,681m of water pipeline in the Municipality. This project brings stable water supply to around 5,000 inhabitants and it will be expected to allow for development of local economy.

The Government of Japan has addressed water supply as one of the crucial issues on human basic needs and has so far contributed almost 1 million EUR for water supply projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996.

Handover Ceremony for the "Project for Improvement of Water Supply System at Pribava in Gracanica"

On June 7, 2012, the handover ceremony for “the Project for Improvement of Water Supply System at Pribava in Gracanica” was held in Gracanica with the attendance of Ambassador Hideo Yamazaki and Mr. Nusret Helic, Gracanica Mayor.


The Government of Japan has granted 60,415 EUR (approximately 118,161KM) to Municipality Gracanica for the renovation of water supply network at local community Pribava in Gracanica. This project brings stable water supply to around 2,300 inhabitants and 30 SMEs in the community, and is expected to enable the Municipality to maintain appropriate water management by solving the longstanding problem of illegal use of water on private lands.

Group of Artists from Japan Visiting Primary School ''Sveti Sava'' in East Sarajevo

On March 30, 2012, the representatives of “Kids Painting Project (KPP),” paid a visit to Primary School “Sveti Sava” in East Sarajevo. KPP has been engaging in the activities aimed at healing the psychological wounds of the children who are affected by the Great Eastern Earthquake through painting classes. The KPP has organized a series of exhibitions of the painting and messages from the pupils of primary schools in BiH to the victims of the earthquake in disaster affected Tohoku region.

Primary school “Sveti Sava” was constructed by the Japanese official development assistance (ODA) in 2003, and the pupils of this school have send paintings and messages to the victims through the Embassy of Japan. KPP decided to visit the school in order to convey the message of appreciation from the people of Tohoku to the pupils of BiH, who have given them strength to overcome the tragedy through their heartwarming paintings and messages.

Also, the KPP conducted the workshops of Origami as well as the painting on glass surface in order to promote understanding of Japanese culture. 

The event was attended by Ambassador Hideo Yamazaki, Mrs. Yamazaki, as well as the representatives of the Government of the Republika Srpska and local authorities.

Signing of Grant Contract for the "Project for Improvement of Ambulance Vehicles for Health Care Centre Orasje"

On March 26, 2012, the Grant Contract for “the Project for Improvement of Ambulance Vehicles for the Health Care Centre Orasje” was signed between Mr. Hideo Yamazaki, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ms. Ljiljana Leovac, Director of Health Centre Orasje.

The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the Health Care Centre, a grant up to 83,191 Euros for the procurement of two ambulance vehicles under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GAGP).

Orasje is located on the border with Croatia, and there are major roads running through the municipality. As a result, there are many road accidents caused by the heavy traffic and thus there is an urgent need to improve the emergency medical care system. This project is aimed at improving the emergency medical care system in the region through the procurement of two ambulance vehicles.

The Government of Japan has so far contributed to the improvement of health sector in the amount of approximately 50 million Euros to a great number of medical institutions across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Signing of Grant Contract for the "Project for Improvement of Transportation System of Vuk Karadzic Primary School in Vlasenica"

On March 23, 2012, the Grant Contract for “The Project for Improvement of Transportation System of Vuk Karadzic Primary School in Vlasenica” was signed between Mr. Hideo Yamazaki, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ms. Biljana Ristanovic, Headmaster of Vuk Karadzic Primary School in Vlasenica.

The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the primary school, a grant up to 83,260 Euros for the procurement of two mini-buses for transportation of the school pupils from rural areas

There are approximately 150 pupils who are commuting from the remote villages to the school every morning. Although the school has been hiring the local transportation company for their transport, the pupils had to share the buses with commuting factory workers, whose commuting hour is earlier than that of the pupils. By implementing project, the school will be able to reduce the transportation costs by 30-40%, as well as the physical burden of pupils who often had to wait for a long hours.

The Government of Japan has so far contributed approximately 20 million Euro to the primary education sector and implemented over 70 projects across Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996.

Signing of Grant Contract for the "Project for Support of Demining in Bihac and Velika Kladusa"

On March 21, 2012, the Grant Contract for “the Project for Support of Demining in Bihac and Velika Kladusa” was signed between Mr. Hideo Yamazaki, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr. Dorijan Marsic, Director of ITF Enhancing Human Security (ITF).

The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the ITF, a grant up to 420,000 Euros for the mine clearance and technical survey activities in the municipalities of Bihac and Velika Kladusa under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project(GAGP).

This project is aimed at enhancing the security of local residents and enabling the mine contaminated lands to be used for agricultural and touristic purposes, thereby fostering the sustainable returns of refugees/IDP and economic development of Bihac and Velika Kladusa. Through this project, approximately 330,000sqm will be cleared of mines in both municipalities, where the development of social infrastructure (agriculture, forestry, and tourism) has been hampered by mine contamination.

In addition, through the matching fund mechanism of ITF, additional 420,000 Euro will be provided by ITF, which will enable the mine clearance and technical survey activities for approximately 300,000sqm. In total, approximately 630,000sqm will be cleared of landmines.

The Government of Japan has so far contributed approximately 3 million Euro to the mine clearance and mine awareness education activities across Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996.

Signing of Grant Contract for the "Project for Improvement of Ambulance Vehicles for the Health Care Centre Bihac"

On March 13, 2012, the Grant Contract for “the Project for Improvement of Ambulance Vehicles for the Health Care Centre Bihac” was signed between Mr. Hideo Yamazaki, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ms. Azra Cehic-Hasic, Director of Health Centre Bihac.

The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the Health Care Centre, a grant up to 80,442 Euros for the procurement of two ambulance vehicles under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project(GAGP).

Due to the fact that Bihac is located at a crossroad for 3 major roads, and its proximity to the neighboring Croatia, there are many road accidents, which require urgent medical attention. Also, Una-Sana Canton where Bihac Municipality is located, has large numbers of patients who are suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, the Centre is obliged to send the patients with serious conditions to the major clinical centers in Sarajevo and Tuzla on daily basis.

This project is aimed at improving the emergency medical system in the region through the procurement of two ambulance vehicles, including the special cardiomobile vehicle.

The Government of Japan has so far contributed to the improvement of health sector in the amount of approximately 50 million Euro to a great number of medical institutions across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Signing of Grant Contract for the "Project for Improvement of Heating System for the Health Care Centre Velika Kladusa"

On March 8, 2012, the Grant Contract for “the Project for Improvement of Heating System for the Health Care Centre Velika Kladusa” was signed between Mr. Hideo Yamazaki, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Dr. Senad Okanovic, Director of the Health Care Centre Velika Kladusa.

The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the Health Care Centre a grant assistance for grassroots human security projects up to 72,584EUR for the replacement of radiators and installation of pipes renovation at the centre.

The renovation of the central heating system at the health care centre is one of the highest priorities in order to secure the optimal heating of the premises. It is expected that this project will contribute to the improvement of the quality of the health care services provided at this centre. Consequently, the realization of the project will contribute to the reduction of the patients’ physical burden caused by the low temperature of rooms.

The newly approved project will benefit approximate 138,300 patients, especially newborn babies and the patients who need the examinations.

The Government of Japan has so far contributed to the medical health in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996 and has attached great importance to this sector since ensuring people lives in this county is the essential element of basic human needs.

Signing of Grant Contract for the "Project for Construction of Fire Department in Milici"

On February 29, 2012, the Grant Contract for “the Project for Construction of Fire Department in Milici” was signed between Mr. Hideo Yamazaki, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr. Zivojin Jurosevic, Mayor of Municipality Milici.

The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the Municipality a grant assistance for grassroots human security projects up to 82,805EUR (approximately 161,952.50KM) for the construction of the fire department in Milici.

The construction of the building for the fire fighters and the civil protection staff is one of the highest priorities in Milici area in order to devise effective disaster prevention schemes such as making quick response to the requests of emergency calls as well as organizing the adequate emergency drill for the public. Consequently, the realization of the project will contribute to save lives, assets and natural resources in the region.

The newly approved project will benefit approximate 13,000 inhabitants who prepare the contingency.

The Government of Japan has so far contributed to the public welfare in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996 and has attached great importance to this sector since ensuring people living in this county is the essential element of basic human needs.

Handover ceremony for the "Project for Improvement of Emergency Medical Sevice for the Health Care Centre Kljuc"

On January 19, 2012, the handover ceremony for “the Project for Improvement of Emergency Medical Service for the Health Care Centre Kljuc” was held at the Health Centre Kljuc.  Ambassador Hideo Yamazaki, Dr. Amir Muric, Minister of the Health and Social Policy of the Una-Sana Canton and Dr. Behzad Hadzic, Director of the Health Care Centre Kljuc attended the ceremony.

The Government of Japan has granted 58,024 EUR (approximately 113,486.52 KM) to the Health Care Centre Kljuc for the renovation of the emergency department and the procurement of the new ambulance vehicle. 

This project will contribute to the improvement of quality of emergency services.  Approximately 12,000 local people who annually visit the emergency department will benefit from this project.  This project, especially the renovation of the emergency department, is expected to reduce the physical and mental burden on the patient during the transportation and the medical examination.
