Embassy of Japan had a Japanese Film Night “Tora-san Takes a Vacation” by using 16mm film projector. The audience enjoyed the characteristics of lovable traveling salesman Tora-san, who is always unlucky in love.

- October 30, 2010: 10th International Judo Tournament "BiH and Nippon"

10th Jubilee International Judo Tournament “BiH and Nippon” was held in Sports Hall “Juan Antonio Samaranch” at Zetra, Sarajevo, October 30, 2010. The tournament was opened by Ambassador of Japan to BiH Futao Motai at 10:00, after which the competition started. More than 600 contestants from 50 clubs from Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia and BiH, in five age categories and 75 weight divisions took part in the tournament.

The most successful senior Ante Svirčić from Judo Club Solin from Split (CRO) was awarded traditional Sanshiro Sugata trophy.
- October 13, 2010: Japanese Night at School of Economics and Business Sarajevo

International Office of School of Economics and Business (University of Sarajevo) in cooperation with Embassy of Japan and as part of the project "Bring the world closer to SEBS" organized Japanese Night at School of Economics and Business Sarajevo. The main aim of the project is to bring the world closer to SEBS students by involving foreign Embassies in Sarajevo in lectures, presentations and other activities with the students.

H.E. Ambassador Futao Motai held a lecture on the topic “Secrets of Japanese Economic Success” which was followed by a fruitful Q&A session. Ms. Maja Arslanagic, faculty staff of School of Economics and Business Sarajevo shared her personal experience of research visit to Japan. Afterwards, the students and faculty staff were introduced to scholarship programes offered through the Embassy of Japan, could watch an introductory DVD about Japan and enjoy Japanese music and other interesting exhibits from Japan.
- October 6-14, 2010: Demonstration/Lecture of Japanese Calligraphy and Shodo Journal Research Institute Calligraphy Exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts Sarajevo
- Embassy of Japan in BiH and Shodo Journal Research Institute organized a lecture and demonstration of Japanese calligraphy at the Academy of Fine Arts Sarajevo on October 6 and 7. Mr. Keiji Onodera, President of Shodo Journal Research Institute, was lecturer and demonstrator in Sarajevo, and introduced the soul of calligraphy to local people.
- The audience additionally had a chance to see the exhibition of calligraphic works set up at the gallery space of the Academy of Fine Arts, October 8-14, every day 10:00-18:00 hrs.
- October 04-08, 2010: "Japan - In Search of Perfection" - Exhibition and Lectures Organized by Students of Faculty of Architecture in Sarajevo at Burence, Faculty of Architecture in Sarajevo

Students of Faculty of Architecture, in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in BiH, organized an exhibition and lectures with the aim of presenting Japanese art, architecture and culture to students of their faculty.

Visitors enjoyed exhibition of posters made by students of the Faculty of Architecture on the topic "Japan", documentaries about Japan and Japanese architecture, lectures by faculty professors and other exhibits. Faculty of Architecture Teaching Assistant Ms. Nermina Zagora, who participated in Japan Foundation Fellowship Program for Intelectual Exchange, held a lecture on modern tendencies in Japanese architecture.

- September 7, 2010: Visit to Mula Mustafa Baseskija Primary School in Sarajevo

The Embassy of Japan held an origami workshop at Mula Mustafa Baseskija Primary School in Sarajevo. A group of around 25 pupils, from 3rd to 7th grade, showed their skills of making origami and could ask more about life in Japan and Japanese customs and culture.

- June 12th: Japanese Embassy at the 7th Kid's Festival

The 7th Kid's Festival took place from 11th to 16th June in Sarajevo and it was the second year for the Embassy of Japan in BiH to join the festival.

Over 40.000 children from all over BiH visited the festival - many of them on June 12th, when they could enjoy different activities organized at Zetra Olympic Centre, including film screenings, jugglers, workshops, parachuters etc, with participation of many embassies and international and domestic organizations.

Japanese Embassy's booth was very much visited and kids were able to try and play with some of traditional Japanese toys and win small rewards as well as make origami, or try to eat with chopsticks.
- June 1st: Ambassador Motai Held a Lecture at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Mostar

Ambassador of Japan to BiH Futao Motai gave a lecture on the topic “Japan and Japanese Diplomacy” in the amphitheater of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Mostar. This was the second guest lecture of Japanese Ambassador at this Faculty.

The lecture was primarily aimed at postgraduate students of the Faculty of Philosophy but others also joined the lecture to hear more about the relationship of Japan with its neighbouring countries, the USA, the EU and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The lecture was followed by a Q&A session, during which the students commented the lecture and asked for additional information on the topic as well as other segments of Japanese culture.

- May 29th: Concert by the Balkan Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Mr. Toshio Yanagisawa

Japan Foundation and Embassy of Japan in BiH co-hosted a classical music concert, inviting a Japanese conductor with his chamber composed of different nationals in the Balkan. It was sponsored by Rotary International District 2750: Rotary Club of Tokyo Suginami and JTI (Japan Tabacco International), and supported by Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Every last Wednesday of the month from March to May was the Japanese Film Night by using 16mm film projector. The audience enjoyed 3 Japanese films so far: "Kikujiro", "Nodo-jiman" and "Hachiko".

- May 7-15, 2010: Exhibition "The Spirit of Budo-The History of Japan's Martial Arts"
- Japanese Embassy in cooperation with Japan Foundation organized the Exhibition of a visual introduction of Japanese history and culture with weapons used in Japanese martial arts at Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- April 2nd: Japanese Maestro Toshio Yanagisawa and Flutist Yuki Saito Held a Concert with Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra

Renowned Japanese conductor Toshio Yanagisawa and flutist Yuki Saito held a concert with the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra at the National Theatre on April 2, 2010. The concert was supported by Japanese Embassy in BiH and sponsored by Japan Tobacco International company (JTI).

During the performance, which included compositions by G. Rossini, W.A. Mozart and L. van Beethoven, the audience enjoyed the close connection between the orchestra and conductor and rewarded the artists with long applause.

- Embassy of Japan Held Presentations of MEXT Scholarships for 2011 in Banja Luka, Mostar and Sarajevo

Embassy of Japan held presentations about 4 different scholarship programs offered by The Government of Japan to students from BiH who wish to study at Japanese universities under the Monbukagakusho Scholarship Programme.

The presentations held at Universities of Banja Luka, Sarajevo, Mostar and Dzemal Bijedic in Mostar introduced students with details about scholarship programs as well as offered them some general information about Japan and student life there.

- March 26th: Former Scholarship Students Reunion 2010

The Former Scholarship Reunion was held on March 26th, and some former JICA trainees also joined. The reunion was a good opportunity for all to get to know each other more and to deepen mutual relationship.
- March 13th: Seminar "Building Education Network for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina"

Ambassodor Motai gave a speech at a seminar which was organized by JICA Alumni. More than 100 participants which were mainly primary, secondary school officials and students, gathered from all over BiH. At the seminar, there were lectures by Embassy staffs and JICA officials on Japanese culture and Japanese educational systems as well as exchanging views on peace education.

The Embassy of Japan made a visit to Zenica University for a briefing of Government Scholarship Program and also had a screening of a Japanese film "Water Boys".
- March 5th: Seminar "Japanese Culture and Tradition - Japanese Tourists" in Jajce

Former JICA trainee, a member of JICA Alumni in BiH, organized a seminar in Jajce in order to deepen the knowledge of eco-tourism as well as to understand the characters of Japanese tourists for the development of tourism in BiH. Embassy of Japan joined this seminar and gave some tips to attract Japanese tourists. Around 30 relevant local people from all over BiH participated.

Jajce, a medieval town, once a royal residence, was nominated for the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List in 2007. You can enjoy its beautiful scenery with a magnificent waterfall.

- February 19th: Scholarship Fair 2010

Embassy of Japan participated in the Scholarship Fair 2010 organized by University of Sarajevo. Around 2,500 Bosnian students visited this fair and Embassy of Japan introduced Japanese government scholarship programs.
- February 17th-23rd: Japanese Film Week

Embassy of Japan, Japan Foundation and Sarajevo Winter Festival organized "Japanese Film Week" at Cinema City in Sarajevo. The audience enjoyed 7 Japanese Contemporary films: "We Shall Overcome Someday", "Half a Confession", "Hanging Garden", "Glass Rabbit", "Canary", "My House" and "Hush!", and had a chance to learn more about Japan through these films.

Embassy of Japan organized a presentation about Japan to high school students of the Second and the Third gymnasium in Sarajevo. The students seemed to enjoy it and deepen their knowledge of Japan through this presentation.

Embassy of Japan in BiH and Academy of Performing Arts Sarajevo organized a Japanese Film Night at the Open Stage Obala. The film in 16mm format was shown in Japanese audio with English subtitles.

"Water Boys " (2001), directed by Yaguchi Shinobu, is a story of high school boys, who started synchronized swimming. The audience enjoyed the comedy touch and had a chance to see a part of life of high school students in Japan.
- February 5th: Visit to Sveti Sava School

The Embassy of Japan held an origami workshop at Sveti Sava School in East Sarajevo. This school was renovated through the Project for Construction of Basic Schools by Japanese government's official development assistance.

With the help of an university student, the children seemed to enjoy learning how to make origami and know more about Japanese culture.

Embassy of Japan in BiH and Academy of Performing Arts Sarajevo organized a Japanese Film Night at the Open Stage Obala. The film in 16mm format was shown in Japanese audio with English subtitles.

"24 Eyes " (1987), directed by Asama Yoshitaka, is a story of a school teacher and her 12 pupils through the times of political and economic changes in Japan up until the end of World War Ⅱ. The film sent an antiwar message to the audience by portraying the relationship between the teacher and her pupils.

- November 5th : Ambassador's Lecture at Mostar University

Faculty of Philosophy, University of Mostar hosted a lecture by Ambassador Motai.

Ambassador talked about the reasons of Japanese assitance to BiH as well as the secrets of Japanese business success, and students listened to his lecture with great interest.

On October 28th, he gave a lecture at University of Zenica with the topic of "Japanese Diplomacy and the Secret of Postwar Revival".
- November 4th: Ukiyoe Lecture and Demonstration

Japanese Embassy and Japan Foundation organized Ukiyoe lecture and demonstration at Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. The event was sponsored by SONY.

Ukiyoe is a genre of traditional Japanese arts, which originated in Edo period (1603-1868). One of the major techniques to create Ukiyoe is "woodcut prints", and the woodcut print Ukiyoe is based on a delicate division of labor among three craftsmen - an artist, a wood carver and a print maker.
- Lecturer, Mr.Adachi, and demonstrator as a print maker, Mr.Kyoso, from Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints, introduced this admired and highly evaluated technique to the audience.

- October 31st: 9th International Judo Tournament "BiH & Nippon"

The 9th International Judo Tournament “BiH & Nippon” was held at Sports Hall “Amel Beckovic” in Vogošća and was organized by Judo Federation of FBiH and Embassy of Japan in BiH, with technical support from judo clubs Bosna and City Center.

There were more than 650 participants from very small kids to adults divided into different weight categories, from Bosnia and Herzegovina and neighboring countries including Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia. Ms. Larisa Cerić, the gold medalist from World Junior Championship 2009 held in Paris, also participated.

Embassy of Japan has been supporting this event for 9 years, and Tatamis, which have been donated by Japanese government in 2001, have been used for the rings of this tournament every year.
- October 6th: Visit to SOS-Social Center Hermann Gmeiner, introducing Japan at "Children's Week"

The Embassy of Japan visited SOS-Social Center in Sarajevo to introduce Japan and Japanese culture, followed by our last visit in September.

SOS Kinderdorf International Organization supports the "Children's Week" which is traditionally dedicated in the first week of October, by organizing and participating in different activities and events. Children from Sarajevo, Mostar, Gorazde, Gracanica, Donji Vakuf have the oppurtunity to enjoy many different activities such as; art exhibitions, little Olympic Games, theatre shows, creative workshops and more.
