The Cultural Department in the Embassy of Japan in BH is in charge of public relation activities, cultural activities, and people-to-people exchange activities in BiH. Further information for each of these programs can be found in the text below.
- Reference room
- The Cultural Department in the Embassy opens the reference room inside the visa/consulate room to the public on the Embassy’s working days. The reference room allows you to read and watch materials such as books, CDs, videos and DVDs on Japan.

- The Cultural Department in the Embassy offers introduction on Japan/Japanese culture to interested schools. Representatives of the Cultural Department will visit your school and also provide information materials. - MEXT Scholarships for 2012
- 1. Research students:
- All major students who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students
- Born on or after April 2, 1977
- Must have completed undergraduate studies by March 2012
- Scholarship term: 1.5 - 2 years
- 2. Undergraduate students:
- Social Science and Humanities/Natural Sciences
- Born between April 2, 1990 and April 1, 1995
- Must have completed a 12-year regular course of school education by March 2012
- Scholarship term: about 5 years (incl. one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language)
- 3. College of technology students:
- Major in engineering field
- Born between April 2, 1990 and April 1, 1995
- Must have completed a 11-year regular course of school education by March 2012

- Major in Technology, Personal Care and Nutrition, Education and Welfare, Business, Culture and General Education, and other fields.

- Must have completed a twelve year regular course of school education by March 2012

- Application Procedure
- Application deadline: 17:30h, 6th June, 2011
- Applicants must send all the required documents to the Embassy of Japan by post. Any documents which come to the Embassy after the deadline cannot be accepted.
- Written Exam: (second half of June)
- Candidates who pass the screening of documents will be invited by e-mail and called for the written exam (will be held in Sarajevo).
- All exams (except Japanese) are in English.
- Candidates are not allowed to use any written materials or technical devices during the exams (e.g. calculators).
- Interview: (second half of June)
- Candidates who pass the written exam will be invited by e-mail and called for the interview (will be held in the Embassy of Japan in Sarajevo).

- NOTE for MEXT 2012 applicants:
- From this year, MEXT will not take into consideration applicants who do not find advisors by themselves by the end of August, so it is advisable for students to start the procedure to get acceptance letter from their university as soon as possible. - Japanese Language Course Information
- There are no courses organized at the Embassy of Japan in BiH at the moment.
- Japan Foundation Program
- Fellowship for Intellectual Exchange 2012-2013
- This program offers scholars, researchers (except undergraduate and graduate students), journalist and professionals, under the age of 45 who are engaged in research activities in the fields of the humanities or the social sciences, or who have practical experience in research, media, or non-profit organizations, the chance to research in Japan for 1-2 months within the period from May 20, 2012, to March 15, 2013.
- Application deadline: December 7th, 2011. Applicants must send all the required documents to Embassy of Japan, Bistrik 9, 71000 Sarajevo, by post. Any documents after the deadline cannot be accepted.
- Interview: Candidates who pass the screening of the document will be invited to interview until December 13th, 2011.
- The Japan Foundation is an independent administrative institution, whose purpose is the promotion of cultural exchange for the better international environment between Japan and other countries. The Japan Foundation carries out its programs and activities in the following three major categories:

- New Japanese International Broadcasting Service “NHK World TV” has begun
- Japan International Broadcasting and NHK have started to broadcast “NHK World TV” to approximately 70 countries and regions through local satellite services and cable service providers from February. NHK World TV provides the very latest information from Japan, Asia and the rest of the world, as well as a wide variety of programs and topics, 24 hours a day.
