Handover ceremony for the Project for Improvement of Emergency Medical Sevice for the Health Care Centre Kljuc

On January 19, 2012, the handover ceremony for “the Project for Improvement of Emergency Medical Service for the Health Care Centre Kljuc” was held at the Health Centre Kljuc. Ambassador Hideo Yamazaki, Dr. Amir Muric, Minister of the Health and Social Policy of the Una-Sana Canton and Dr. Behzad Hadzic, Director of the Health Care Centre Kljuc attended the ceremony.

The Government of Japan has granted 58,024 EUR (approximately 113,486.52 KM) to the Health Care Centre Kljuc for the renovation of the emergency department and the procurement of the new ambulance vehicle. This project will contribute to the improvement of quality of emergency services. Approximately 12,000 local people who annually visit the emergency department will benefit from this project. This project, especially the renovation of the emergency department, is expected to reduce the physical and mental burden on the patient during the transportation and the medical examination.

On December 20, 2011, the handover ceremony for “the Project for Improvement of Equipment for Vuk Karadzic Primary School in Bijeljina” was held at the Central School of Vuk Karadzic Primary School in Bijeljina. Ambassador Hideo Yamazaki, Mr. Mico Micic, Mayor of Bijeljina and Mr. Dragorad Vasic, Director of this school attended the ceremony.

The Government of Japan has granted 45,375 EUR (approximately. 88,746 KM) to Vuk Karadzic Primary School for the renovation of the windows, doors, walls, gutter and lightning conductor, and the purchase of new furniture for classrooms of the school. The replacement of the windows is expected to reduce heat loss and keep classrooms warm, and the new furniture for classrooms will improve the educational environment for 1,522 students as well as 116 school staff. Approximately 25,000 local people will also benefit from this project indirectly because this school is used on various occasions such as elections and community events.

Handover ceremony for the Project for Support of Demining in Gracanica

On November 15th 2011, the handover ceremony for “the Project for Support of Demining in Gracanica” was held by the International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF) at one of the demined locations in the Municipality Gracanica. Ambassador Hideo Yamazaki, Mr. Nusret Helic, Mayor of Municipality Gracanica and other relevant officials attended the ceremony.

The Government of Japan has granted 200,000 EUR to the ITF for the demining activities of more than 200,000 square meters in Spreca Valley in the Municipality Gracanica. Additionally, the ITF has provided approximately 200,000 EUR for the demining activities of approx. 200,000 square meters in other locations in this municipality through its matching fund mechanism. Under this project, approximately 54,000 residents in the region can live safer.

It is expected that this project will contribute to the socio-economic development and the environment protection as well as the return of refugees and IDPs. The cleared land can be used for development purposes such as agricultural activities. As a result of this project, the riverbank protection work that would prevent flooding of the Spreca River can be implemented under the initiatives of local authorities and the basic infrastructure can be restored in the area.

The Government of Japan has been providing assistance for mine clearance operations and mine risk education in the amount of approximately 2.5 million Euros in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996.

Signing of Grant Contract for the Project for Improvement of Water Supply System at Oraovac in Zvornik

On August 31, 2011, the Grant Contract for “the Project for Improvement of Water Supply System at Oraovac in Zvornik“ was signed between Mr. Futao Motai, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr. Zoran Stevanovic, Mayor of Municipality Zvornik. The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the Municipality a grant assistance for grassroots human security projects up to 75,592EUR (approximately 147,846.85KM) for the renovation of the 3,080m water pipeline and the reservoir, and the construction of the water catchments and the manholes in Oraovac.

The improvement of infrastructure including water supply is one of the highest priorities in Municipality Zvornik in order to facilitate the daily life of people as well as to further encourage refugees to return to the Municipality. The newly approved project will benefit approximate 1,000 inhabitants who will gain stable access to drinking water.
The Government of Japan has so far contributed almost 1,150,000EUR in support of water supply projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996 and has attached great importance to this sector since provision of clean and regular water is the essential element of basic human needs.

On July 14, 2011, the handover ceremony for “the Project for Construction of Camp Facility for the Scout Association” was held at the Boracko Lake Camp Site in Konjic. Ambassador Futao Motai, Mr. Fikret Plevljak, Zenica-Doboj Cantonal Prime Minister, Mr. Husejin Smajlovic, Mayor of Zenica Municipality, Mr. Edin Saric, President of the Scout Association of Zenica Municipality attended the ceremony.

The Government of Japan has granted 69,898 EUR (approx. 136,708 KM) to the Scout Association of Zenica Municipality for the construction of 4 bungalows and the purchase of 35 tents with 70 beds which are essential facilities for scout’s activities through year.

It is expected that this project will contribute to the further enhancement of outdoor youth activities regardless of season. Under this project, the Scout Association will provide a wide range of opportunities at the Boracko Lake Camp Site not only for camping activities of the scouts but also for seminars/workshops organized by NGOs and education institutions such as universities. Consequently, the realization of this project is expected to deepen the understanding of peace consolidation and ethnic reconsciliation.

On March 10, 2011, the Grant Contract for “the Project for Reconstruction of Water Supply System in Bosansko Grahovo“ was signed between Mr. Futao Motai, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr. Uros Makic, Mayor of Municipality Bosansko Grahovo. The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the Municipality a grant assistance for grassroots human security projects up to 74,228EUR (approximately 145,177KM) for the renovation of 3,681m of water pipeline in the Municipality.

The Government of Japan has granted 62,822 EUR (approx. 122,869 KM) to the Health Centre Berkovici for the purchase of x-ray device, x-ray film processor, defibrillator, dental x-ray device with film processor, and dental chair with compressor which are essential equipment of primary health care.

It is expected that this project will contribute to the improvement of local medical service. Under this project, the Health Centre Berkovici will be able to make more accurate examination of patients who have been forced to make a trip to more well-equipped health centres in the other municipalities. Consequently, the realization of this project is expected to reduce the economic and physical burden of patients.

The Government of Japan has granted 49,018 EUR (approx. 95,870 KM) to the Third Primary School, Oborci for the renovation of the roofs, windows and frames, and the purchase of new furniture for classrooms and of experiment tools for chemistry and physics. The replacement of the roofs made by material which has a possibility of causing harmful effect to human health, and the new furniture for classrooms and the experiment tools for chemistry and physics will improve the educational environment for 220 students as well as 17 school staff. The renovation of the windows and frames will contribute to an increase in thermal efficiency. Approximately 2,000 local people will also benefit from this project indirectly because this school is used on various occasions.

On October 26, 2010, Diplomatic Notes were exchanged between Mr. Futao Motai, Ambassador of Japan to BiH, and H.E. Mr. Sven Alkalaj, Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH for the Project for the Improvement of Musical Instruments of Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH.

The Government of Japan has decided to extend to the Government of BiH a cultural grant up to ¥44,000,000 or approximately 765,000KM for the purchase of instruments for Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra.

This project enables the purchase of instruments for Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, which consists of ethnically diverse musicians and has been contributing to ethnic reconciliation as well as the promotion of peace in this country through their activities. Through this project, the frequency of public performances of the Orchestra, which has been limited so far because of the lack of the orchestra owned musical instruments, is expected to increase.

Also, the Embassy of Japan expects more joint events or concerts with Japanese musicians, which have been successfullly realized with the cooperation of the Orchestra.

The Government of Japan has granted 61,995EUR (approx. 121,251KM) to Agricultural Cooperative “Tresnja Produkt” Mostar for the procurement of agricultural equipments including a tractor in order to establish the system of integrated activities from agricultural production to marketing.

It is expected that the project will contribute to the improvement of the living condition of the community in Buna which is predominately populated by Serbs and to the promotion of the sustainable return of people to this region through the enhancement of agricultural production.

Handover Ceremony for the Project for the Improvement of Studio Equipment of Public Broadcasting Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina

On May 12th, 2010, Handover Ceremony for the Project for the Improvement of Studio Equipment of Public Broadcasting Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina (now renamed to Radio and Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina – BHRT) was held at the studio of BHRT. Ambassador Futao Motai and Mr.Nermin Durmo, Acting General Director of BHRT, presented the ceremony.

Under the project, 7 sets of TV studio cameras and related equipment are provided to modernize and digitalize the equipment. With this assistance, BHRT can comply with the EU public broadcasting standards, which will result in the improvement of the quality of its programs. The aim of this project is to promote ethnic reconciliation in this region by upgrading the quality of the programme, since BHRT is the only state level public broadcaster and plays an important role in broadcasting non-ethnic bias programs.

Japanese government will continue to cooperate with BHRT in the future in different fields, including offering video materials on Japanese culture, history or tradition, so that they can reach people in every corner of BiH. It is the hope of the Government of Japan that the bondage of the people of both countries will further tighten through this cooperation.

The realisation of the project will not only increase accommodation capacity of the camp, but is it also expected that this camp site becomes gathering point of young people from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, young people of different ages and different ethnicities, who could work, learn and have fun together.

In Vuk Karadzic Primary School, the grant will be used for replacement of old desks and chairs and for repair of school building. The project will contribute to 1,522 students and 116 school staff as well as 25,000 local residents in the area.

Milan Rakic Primary School was temporarily used as an evacuation centre during the war of 90ies and the inside of the school therefore was damaged. The grant of 53,313 Euros will enable procurement of furniture for classrooms and repair of roof which will benefit 341 students and 58 school staff.

The biggest concern of the Third Primary School in Oborci is the roof made by salonite which is just like asbestos. The grant of 49,018 Euros will be utilised for renovation of the entire roof of the school and equipping physics and chemistry classrooms which will result in improvement of leaning environment for 220 students and 17 school staff.

Municipality Zivinice will receive the grant of 55,218 Euros on behalf of Zivinice Gornje Primary School which has 334 students and 38 school staff. The school building used to be a centre for Internally displaced persons during the war. The realisation of the project will improve the classrooms’ equipment and establish the new classrooms for physics and chemistry. Part of the funds will also used for replacement of windows.

The Grant Contract for the "Project for Improvement of Agricultural Production for Sustainable Return in Buna Region" was signed between Mr Futao Motai, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr Dragan Supljeglav, Director of Agricultural Cooperative “Tresnja Product” Mostar. The Signing Ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Mirsad Kebo, Vice President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The grant funded through Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP), in the amount of 61,995 EUR (approx.121,251KM), enables purchasing of Tractor, Moto Cultivator, Refrigerator, Drying Kiln, Delivery Vehicle, Libelling Machine. The aim of the project is to support sustainable return of returnees in the Buna region through agricultural production enhancement by the provision of the new equipment. Thus, the realisation of this project will improve all phases of agricultural activity from production of farm products until delivery of products to market and the further economic self-sufficiency will be ensured through expansion of the agricultural activities by the beneficiaries of 1,000 local residents.

The grant funded through Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP), in the amount of 62,822 EUR (approx.122,869KM), enables purchasing of X-ray device, X-ray film processor, Dental chair with compressor, Dental X-ray device with film processor and Defibrillator. This project will contribute to 4,000 residents of Municipality Berkovici, who often had to travel to and from Trebinje, distanced of 75km, to receive a treatment or a medical check, since the Health Centre Berkovici could not offer some medical service due to lack of equipment. This project will also contribute to the improvement of working environment for the medical staff, which will result in higher quality of primary health care in Berkovici.

The Government of Japan has granted 50,988 EUR (99,723 BAM) to the Aleksa Santic Primary School for installation of the new central heating system with a new boiler and purchasing of new furniture for classrooms and teacher's room. This project will provide a better working environment for 640 children and about 50 school staff.

The Government of Japan gives high priority to the primary education sector and almost 20 million EUR has been financed for reconstruction of school buildings and equipping classrooms in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996. The Government of Japan has granted 60,966 EUR (119,239 BAM) to Municipality Donji Vakuf for the installation of a new heating system for Kurica Kula Branch School and new furniture for classrooms at the Main School of the First Primary School in Donji Vakuf. The installation of new central heating system will replace old firewood stoves and new furniture for classrooms will improve the working environment for 1200 students as well as 70 school staff.
