Signing ceremony for ‘’The Project for Rehabilitation of Laboratories for Microbiology and Chemistry in Veterinary Faculty, University of Sarajevo''

   

The signing ceremony for ‘’The Project for Rehabilitation of Laboratories for Microbiology and Chemistry in Veterinary Faculty, University of Sarajevo'' took place on February 10th at Veterinary Faculty, University of Sarajevo. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Kazuya Ogawa, Ambassador of Japan to BiH, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahić, Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Nihad Fejzić, Dean of the Veterinary Faculty, University of Sarajevo, and Faculty staff.

Japan has decided to grant EUR 66,762 (approximately 130,576KM) to the Veterinary Faculty, University of Sarajevo for rehabilitation of the laboratories for microbiology and chemistry which have been in use in their original condition since 1974. The funding for the project is provided under the Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Project Scheme for renovation of the laboratory of microbiology, renovation of the laboratory for chemistry, renovation of the preparation room of the laboratory of chemistry, purchase of 26 laboratory chairs, 2 projectors, 2 projector screens, 2 laptops, 2 panel presentation boards, 2 air conditioners and 11 laboratory microscopes.

Veterinary Faculty, University of Sarajevo employs 80 academic staff members and 91 supporting staff, with 564 undergraduate students and 50 postgraduate students. Since its establishment, the Faculty mission has been focused on assurance of high standards of excellence in education and research in veterinary medicine and biomedicine and achievement of first-class standards in health protection and welfare of animals, as well as food safety and agricultural development, thus having a significant role in protecting not only animal but public health as well.

Japan remains one of the largest donors in BiH. Since 1996, Japan has granted over 1 billion KM for around 200 projects covering almost all vital sectors such as primary health care, education, demining, water supply, environment protection, infrastructure, culture, sport, and others. This signing ceremony is organized in the light of the 20th anniversary of Japan-BiH diplomatic relations, and has a special importance to open a new chapter of the bilateral relationships and strenghtening friendship between our countries.
