MEXT Scholarships for 2017

1. Research students (MA/PhD):

Students in all fields who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students (MA/PhD)

Born on or after April 2, 1983

Scholarship term: 1.5 - 2 years (incl. 6-month Japanese language course)

2. Undergraduate students:

Social sciences and Humanities, Natural sciences

Born between April 2, 1996 and April 1, 2001

Must have completed a 12-year regular course of school education by March 2018

Scholarship term: about 5 years (incl. one-year preparatory education in Japanese language)

3. College of technology students:

Major in engineering field

Born between April 2, 1996 and April 1, 2001

Must have completed a 12-year regular course of school education by March 2018

Scholarship term: About 4 years (incl. one-year preparatory education in Japanese language)

4. Specialized training college students:

Major in Technology, Personal Care and Nutrition, Education and Welfare, Business, Fashion and Home Economics, Culture and General Education, and other fields

Born between April 2, 1996 and April 1, 2001

Must have completed a 12- year regular course of school education by March 2018

Scholarship term: About 3 years (incl. one-year preparatory education in Japanese language)

Application Deadline for 2018 -  17:00h, June 20, 2017

Applicants must send all the required documents to the Embassy of Japan in BiH (Bistrik 9, 71 000 Sarajevo) by post. Please indicate ''Application for MEXT 2017'' on your envelope. Documents which arrive to the Embassy after the deadline cannot be accepted.

All the necessary information are available on the Embassy of Japan website and in the Application Guidelines, thus no telephone inquiry will be accepted. In case of potential additional questions, they can be sent to embassyofjapan.culture@sx.mofa.go.jp.

Application & Selection Procedure - PDF

Written Tests:

Candidates who pass the screening of documents will be notified via e-mail and invited for the written tests, in June (will be held in Sarajevo).

Candidates for research studies will be invited for the written tests of English and Japanese.

Candidates for undergraduate studies will be invited for the written tests of English, Japanese and natural sciences (more detailed information can be found in the 'Application Information').

All exams (except Japanese) are in English. Candidates are not allowed to use any written materials or technical devices during the exams (e.g. calculators).

Interview:

Candidates who pass the written tests will be notified via e-mail and invited for the interview, in June (will be held at the Embassy of Japan in Sarajevo).

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Research applicants:

1. Thesis Abstract is an abstract of graduation thesis. If applicant's university does not require graduation thesis, applicant can submit a recent academic essay abstract.

2. Applicants should choose a study field in Japan related to their prior BA/MA studies.

Undergraduate, College of Technology & Specialized Training College applicants:

1. Applicants are not restricted in their choice of the study field.

All applicants:

1. Applicants do not have to submit the health certificate together with the other application documents. Applicants will be asked to provide this document if they pass the application screening, written tests and interview at the Embassy. Applicants are not restricted in their choice of institution for the medical examination.

2. English translation of each document in local language is mandatory. Official English translations are not required at the initial application stage. Candidates can translate the documents themselves.

3. Applicants should number the documents (1) through (10) in the right upper corner.

4. Applicants should not staple the documents.

5. In the section Academic Background (Application Form), education duration should include the winter and summer breaks of each academic year.

6. If submitted together with the other application documents, recommendation letter(s) need to be submitted in the envelope(s) sealed by the recommender(s).

7. Applicants should not submit documents of high importance in their original form (e.g. graduation certificate) but verify a document copy at the relevant institution (school/university, municipality, notary office) and provide additional copies.

8. Applicants should keep additional copy of their application documents.

Upon the end of the selection process, applicants will not be able to obtain their original application documents from the Embassy.

9. Please note that the Embassy does not provide individual feedback why an application is unsuccessful.
