A handover ceremony of the UNDP project “Landslide Disaster Risk Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina” in Doboj Municipality

On May 12, 2016, a handover ceremony was held in Doboj Municipality where a landslide remediation work was completed as a part of the UNDP project “Landslide Disaster Risk Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina” . Deputy Head of Mission of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Kazumasa Miyazaki, General Director of Hospital “Sveti Apostol Luka” Dr. Vlado Đurđević, and Chief of Energy and Environment Sector of UNDP Mr. Sanjin Avdić attended the ceremony.

The Government of Japan, as a part of the Japanese assistance to the flood that occurred in May 2014 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, donated 2.94 million USD to the project. The project provides support to 9 flood-affected local municipalities (Doboj, Gorazde, Maglaj, Srebrenik, Tuzla, Zenica, Zvornik, Zepce and Vogosca) in order to remediate landslides and stabilize lands through specific risk-reduction works, as well as to strengthen their landslide management and monitoring capacities. In Doboj Municipality, a landslide that directly endangered two buildings of the hospital was stabilized. The hospital provides medical services to around 270,000 residents in Doboj.
