Handover Ceremony for the Project for Rehabilitation and Expansion of a Facility of Primary School Samac

On September 23, 2016, the handover ceremony for “The Project for Rehabilitation and Expansion of a Facility of Primary School Samac” was held at the Primary School with attendance of Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Kazumasa Miyazaki, Head of the Republic of Srpska Pedagogical Institute Mr. Predrag Damjanovic, Mayor of Samac Municipality Mr. Savo Minic and Headmaster of Primary School “Samac” in Samac Mr. Slobodan Celikovic.

Under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GAGP) scheme, the Government of Japan granted 76,848 EUR (150,303 KM) to Primary School Samac, for rehabilitation and upgrade of the sports hall facility that was damaged in 2014 floods. The sports hall was inadequate for use owing to its age-related deterioration (since 1953) and flood-related damage. Total number of direct project users is 450 pupils of the Primary School. Moreover, the sports hall facility will be put at disposal of various local youth sports-recreational clubs (such as karate, handball, volleyball, etc.), which number around 200 members.

The Government of Japan attaches importance to improvement of primary educational environment, and has, since 1996, granted over 70 projects in the educational sector under the GAGP scheme.
