Handover Ceremony for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Cengic Vila I Primary School in Sarajevo”

  

On 10 May, 2018, a handover ceremony for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Cengic Vila I Primary School in Sarajevo” was held in the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo with attendance of Ambassador Hideyuki Sakamoto, Mr. Elvir Kazazovic, Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Mr. Nedzad Koldzo, Mayor of the Municipality Novo Sarajevo and representatives of this primary school.

Under Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP) scheme, the Government of Japan granted 71,172 EUR (139,201 KM) to the primary school for rehabilitation of old joineries, façade and roof in a school building of the school. Since the school building had been constructed in 1961 and they had been never repaired before this project, they were severely damaged. Total number of direct project beneficiaries is about 900 pupils and 130 teachers and non-teaching staff of the school.

The Government of Japan attaches importance to improvement of primary educational environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has granted 80 projects in the educational sector under the GAGP scheme since 1996.
