On 27 September 2018, a handover ceremony for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Branko Radicevic Primary School in Bratunac” was held in the Municipality of Bratunac with attendance of Ambassador Hideyuki Sakamoto, Mr. Dane Malesevic, Minister of Education and Culture, Republic of Srpska, Mr. Nedeljko Mladenovic, Mayor of the Municipality of Bratunac and Mr. Ljubo Milosevic, Assistant Director, Branko Radicevic Primary School.
Under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP) scheme, the Government of Japan granted 45,347 EUR (88,691.02 KM) to the primary school for rehabilitation of old windows and doors in a school building. The school building was constructed in 1965 and the Government of Japan partially supported renovation of the school building in 1996 after the 90’s conflict, but it has never undergone renovation before this project and they were severely damaged. Direct beneficiaries of this project are about 650 pupils and 80 teachers and non-teaching staff of the school.
The Government of Japan attaches importance to the improvement of primary educational environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has granted over 80 projects in the educational sector under the GAGP scheme since 1996.
