Handover Ceremony for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Jovan Ducic Primary School in Sekovici”

  
 

On 27 September, 2018, a handover ceremony for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Jovan Ducic Primary School in Sekovici” was held in the Municipality of Sekovici with attendance of Ambassador Hideyuki Sakamoto, Mr. Dane Malesevic, Minister of Education and Culture, Republic of Srpska, Mr. Momir Ristić, Mayor of the Municipality Sekovici and Ms. Milica Vasilic, School Director, Jovan Ducic Primary School.

Under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP) scheme, the Government of Japan granted 71,047 EUR (138,955.85 KM) to the primary school for rehabilitation of old windows, doors and roof in a school building. The school building was constructed in 1975, however, it has never undergone large-scale renovation before this project and they were severely damaged. Direct beneficiaries of this project are about 500 pupils and 60 teachers and non-teaching staff of the school.

The Government of Japan attaches importance to improvement of primary educational environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has granted over 80 projects in the educational sector under the GAGP scheme since 1996.
