Culture and Public Relations (PR)

Culture and PR Section in the Embassy of Japan in BiH is in charge of public relation activities, cultural activities, educational activities and people-to-people exchange activities in BiH.

Reference Room

Culture and PR Section opens the reference room inside the visa/consulate room to the public on the Embassy working days (10:00h - 16:00h).

The reference room allows you to read and watch materials such as books, CDs, videos and DVDs on Japan.

3. Providing information on studying in Japan

PR Activities

1. Educational PR ( University/School visits )

Culture and PR Section in the Embassy offers introduction on Japan/Japanese culture to interested faculties/schools. Representatives of the Culture and PR Section will visit your faculty/school and also provide information materials.

2. Granting The Use of The Name of Embassy as Supporter

Embassy provides support to projects that promote Japan/Japanese culture by allowing the use of the name of Embassy as a supporter.

Completed application documents need to be sent by post or hand-delivered to the Embassy (Bistrik 9, 71 000 Sarajevo) at least 3 weeks before the project start date. Please indicate 'Granting The Use of The Name of Embassy as Supporter/Culture Section' on your envelope.

Japanese Language Course Information

University of Sarajevo organizes Japanese language course, taught by a native Japanese language speaker, which started in October 2013.

The course is offered to the citizens of BiH in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in BiH and with the support of the Japan Foundation, and sponsored by Japanese company JTI – Japan Tobacco International.

Intellectual Exchange/Scholarship Programs

Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with MEXT - Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and Japan Foundation, annually offers various scholarship programs for undergradute, postgraduate (MA&PhD) studies in Japan, as well as short-term research programs for PhD students and teacher-training programs.

Cultural Exchange

The Japan Foundation 別ウィンドウで開くis an independent administrative institution, whose purpose is the promotion of cultural exchange for the better international environment between Japan and other countries.

The institution invites individuals and organizations that are planning international exchange projects and activities to participate in programs of the Japan Foundation.

The Japan Foundation carries out its programs and activities in the following three major categories:

(1) Arts and Cultural Exchange別ウィンドウで開く

(2)Japanese-Language Education Overseas

(3) Japanese Studies Overseas and Intellectual Exchange別ウィンドウで開く

Each program within these categories supports international exchange activities by individuals and organizations.

Application documents need to be downloaded from the Japan Foundation website, and sent by post or hand-delivered to the Embassy (Bistrik 9, 71 000 Sarajevo) by the deadline indicated in the respective program description. Please indicate 'Application for Japan Foundation Program/Culture Section' on your envelope.

Cultural Grant Assistance

Cultural Grant Assistance is a part of Official Development Assistance (ODA), provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to contribute to the promotion of cultural and higher educational activities and preservation of cultural heritage in developing countries.

Types of Cultural Grant Assistance:

1. Cultural Grant Assistance

Cultural Grant Assistance is a scheme whereby funds are granted to cover the cost of procurement, transportation and installation of equipment and construction or restoration of facilities used for various cultural and higher educational activities and preservation of cultural heritage.

Purpose: Promotion of culture and higher education, preservation of cultural heritage

Content: Provision of equipment, construction/rehabilitation of facilities

Eligibility: National government agencies

Grant amount: min. EUR 50.000

Application period: throughout the year

 2. Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots projects (GCGP)

Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots projects (GCGP) provides non-refundable financial assistance to support the implementation of cultural and higher education projects conducted by non-profit organizations (including non-governmental organizations-NGOs, local authorities, research and higher education institutions, etc.) that are active at the grass-roots level in developing countries.

Purpose: Promotion of culture and higher education, preservation of cultural heritage

Content: Provision of equipment, construction/rehabilitation of facilities, subsidy for transportation costs (e.g. incurred in transport of pre-owned judo uniforms, etc.)

Eligibility: Local public bodies, NGOs, etc.

Grant limit: max. EUR 50.000

Application period: throughout the year

Japan Video Topics

Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with MEXT, provides Japan Video Topics -- 3-4min. DVD videos featuring various dimensions of Japanese society and culture -- to TV station and organizations, for the purposes of enriching the organization's/TV station's cultural and educational activities and programme as well as bringing Japan closer to the BiH citizens.

New Japanese International Broadcasting Service “NHK World TV” has begun

Japan International Broadcasting and NHK have started to broadcast “NHK World TV” to approximately 70 countries and regions through local satellite services and cable service providers from February.

NHK World TV provides the very latest information from Japan, Asia and the rest of the world, as well as a wide variety of programs and topics, 24 hours a day. 

Here in Bosnia and Herzegovina, you can see it through the satellite ASTRA, Frequency 11.509 GHz and Symbol Rate 22000 ksym/s.
