Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for 2027

The Government of Japan in 2027 offers three different scholarship programmes to students from BiH who wish to study at universities in Japan, under the MEXT (Ministry of Culture, Sport, Education, Technology and Science) Scholarship Programme.
Since 1996, more than 50 students from BiH have visited Japan and gained their education through the MEXT Scholarship Programme.

If you submit the documents in person, the documents must reach the Embassy no later than 17:00 local time on the specified date! (They must be submitted to the Embassy on time)
If documents are submitted by mail, only those with a postmark with the date of sending including the date specified above will be considered. Please make sure to address the envelope with your documents as depicted: The testing for MEXT 2027 will be held in June/July 2026 (including the interviews). Details will be emailed to applicants who pass the document screening.
The MEXT 2027 Scholarship Briefing will be held:
- on May 11, 2026, starting at 16:00 at the Japanese language classroom at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, Franje Račkog 1, Sarajevo

(1) RESEARCH STUDENTS (MA & PhD Degree)
| For: | Students in any field who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students |
| Title upon graduation: | MA / PhD |
| Age requirements: | Born on or after 2 April 1992 |
| Scholarship Term: | 1.5 ~ 2 years (includes 6-month Japanese language education for persons with no previous knowledge of the language, or a level of knowledge inadequate for studies) |

(2) UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS (Bachelor Degree)

| Title upon graduation: | Bachelor |
| Requirements: | Born on or after 2 April 2002 The applicant must complete the min. 12 years of compulsory and secondary education (elementary, middle, and high school) until March 2027 |
| Scholarship Term: | About 5 years (includes a year of Japanese language education for persons who have no previous knowledge of the language, or a level of knowledge inadequate for studies) |

(3) COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY (Technological Expert and / or Bachelor Degree)

| Title upon graduation: | Expert / Bachelor |
| Requirements: | Born on or after 2 April 2002 The applicant must complete the min. 12 years of compulsory and secondary education (elementary, middle, and high school) until March 2027 |
| Scholarship Term: | About 5 years (includes a year of Japanese language education for persons with no previous knowledge of the language, or a level of knowledge inadequate for studies) |
