Handover Ceremony for the Project for Rehabilitation of Primary School “Mesa Selimovic” Janja, Bijeljina


On May 19, 2016, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Kazuya Ogawa participated in the handover ceremony for “the Project for Rehabilitation of Primary School “Mesa Selimovic” Janja, Bijeljina” in Janja, where is located in the north-east part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Together with Ambassador Mr. Ogawa, Deputy Mayor of City of Bijeljina Mr. Huso Zeckanovic, Head of Department for Civil Affairs, City of Bijeljina, Mr. Slavko Bašić and Headmaster of the Primary School Ms. Milica Perkovic-Blagojevic attended the ceremony.
The Government of Japan granted 89,074 EUR (174,213 KM) to Primary School “Mesa Selimovic” under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GAGP) scheme in order  to renew deteriorated windows, doors and roofs, and to repair water pipes of toilets. Since high school students in the community also make use of the facilities of the Primary School, around 1,500 elementary and high school students enjoy benefits from this project.
The Government of Japan attaches importance to improvement of primary educational environment, and has so far granted over 70 projects in the educational sector under the GAGP scheme since 1996.
